Spring at the Museum 2026 in Pistoia: practical info and program

The Civic Museums of Pistoia present "Spring at the Museum 2026", a series of lectures, guided tours and readings running from April 9 to June 2. The program complements two temporary exhibitions and celebrates the city's role as Italian Book Capital.

Current exhibitions

The main shows on display are:

• Marino Marini: painting – Palazzo Fabroni (open until September 27)
• Two Pistoian portraits by Giovanni da San Giovanni – Palazzo Comunale / Civic Museum of Ancient Art (open until September 27)

Lectures and speakers

Lectures begin at 17:00 and admission is free.

• April 9 – Mattia Patti: "Marino Marini before the riders"
• April 14 – Paolo Benassai: "Painting in Pistoia in the first half of the 16th century: trends and artists" (Palazzo Comunale)
• May 5 – Flavio Fergonzi (on Marino Marini)
• May 19 – Gianmarco Russo (on Marino Marini)
• May 7 – Maria Cecilia Fabbri (on Giovanni da San Giovanni)
• May 26 – Alessandro Grassi (on Giovanni da San Giovanni)

Guided tours and thematic walks

Guided tours focus on subjects related to the exhibitions and are led by art historians and museum guides:

• Palazzo Fabroni (Marino Marini painting): April 16 and 19 (Gianmarco Russo, Ginevra Ballati), May 3 (Iacopo Cassigoli – themes of horse and rider), May 12 (Gianmarco Russo)
• Palazzo Comunale (Giovanni da San Giovanni exhibition): April 28 and May 14 with Sandro Bellesi, Elena Testaferrata and Giacomo Guazzini

Readings and Book Capital events

• May 16, 22:00 – Night-time readings at the Civic Museum of Ancient Art (Palazzo Comunale) with the Il Rubino theatre company and students from the Cenacolo di Dora
• May 17, 11:00 – Readings at Palazzo Fabroni with Donne di Carta
• May 17, 16:00 – Readings at the Museo del Ceppo with Amici della San Giorgio

Also, the "Art Ambassadors" (students of class IVB, Pacini language high school) will be available in the civic museums to lead tours from April 11 to May 24 on weekends, 15:00–18:00.

Tickets and reservations

Free admission to the Civic Museums for the entire day of April 25 (10:00–18:00). Guided visits have limited places: booking is free and mandatory by calling 800.012146 before 13:00 on the day prior to the visit.
