Presentation of the first archaeological excavation at Vereto

On Wednesday, 13 May 2026 at 18:00, the presentation of the first archaeological excavation campaign in the Vereto area will take place at Palazzo Romano (Piazza Indipendenza 32, Patù, LE). The activity is part of the cultural and social regeneration project Storie meridiane, promoted by the municipalities of the Capo di Leuca and financed by NextGenerationEU and the PNRR Cultura (M1C3I2.1 “Attrattività dei borghi”).

The event will outline the excavation goals and methodology and will bring together local institutions and technical experts.

  • Lorenzo Ricchiuti – president of the Union of Municipalities “Terra di Leuca” and mayor of Morciano di Leuca
  • Antonio Zunno – superintendent ABAP for the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto
  • Valentino Nizzo – Università Orientale di Napoli, scientific director of the excavation
• Moderator: Mariangela Sammarco, scientific director of the Archaeological Museum of Vereto
