Monumenti Aperti in Oristano: 9–10 May 2026

During the weekend of 9 and 10 May 2026 Oristano joins the Monumenti Aperti initiative, offering a widespread route to showcase the city's heritage. 29 monument sites — churches, historic palaces, towers and memorial places — will be accessible to the public.

  • Piazza Duomo and the Cathedral of Santa Maria
  • Church of San Francesco (home to the Christ of Nicodemus)
  • Churches of Santo Spirito and San Mauro Abate
  • Church and cloister of the Carmine; Church of San Domenico
  • Monastery of the Cappuccine and Church of Santa Chiara
  • Municipal historical archive and public library
  • Diocesan Museum Arborense and Piazza Eleonora with the Eleonora d'Arborea monument
  • Palazzo Campus Colonna; Mariano II Tower; Portixedda Tower
  • Old washhouse, 19th-century aqueduct complex, Byzantine tombs and the Tridentine Seminary

The program includes photography exhibitions and historical collections focused on the city and local ceramics, musical performances by local schools and the Civic School of Music, theatrical pieces inspired by the monuments, and themed storytelling in squares and cloisters. There is also a dedicated route exploring animal symbols in architectural decorations.

Practical information: Dates: 9 May 2026 - 10 May 2026. Location: multiple historic venues in Oristano's city centre. Opening times and access rules depend on each site; some visits may require pre-booking or have limited entry and scheduled guided tours. Check local information points or official channels before attending.

Visitor tips: wear comfortable shoes, allow time for transfers between stops and plan your route in advance by consulting the program. The initiative suits residents, visitors and anyone interested in architecture and local history.
