The Civic Museum of Natural History of Verona hosts the presentation of a new volume documenting the archaeological excavations carried out at the Franzine Nuove necropolis (Villa Bartolomea) between 1968 and 1983. The book, edited by Alessandra Aspes and Marisa Morelato, compiles finds and graves with systematic analysis and updated interpretations.
The publication draws attention to a notable phenomenon: funerary biritualism. The cemetery contains both inhumation and cremation burials, an uncommon coexistence in the Po Valley that offers fresh insights into Bronze Age funerary practices and regional variations.
The volume is a valuable resource for prehistory specialists, archaeologists studying Bronze Age mortuary rites, and anyone interested in the archaeological landscape of the Verona plain. It strengthens ties between the museum and the regional Superintendency for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, reinforcing the museum’s role in prehistoric research.
Visitors and researchers are advised to arrive early due to limited seating. The book is particularly relevant for comparative studies on burial customs, chronology and distribution of necropolises in northern Italy.
