Work is progressing steadily on the integrated energy system "Port Grid" and photovoltaic fields on six port warehouses in Savona, projects funded by Italy’s PNRR and the Green Ports programme aimed at decarbonising logistics.
The plan integrates renewable generation, energy storage and intelligent flow management to increase the port’s energy self-sufficiency and reduce its environmental footprint.
Beyond technical and economic impacts, the initiative has cultural relevance for Savona: the port’s energy transition engages with the city’s maritime identity and opens opportunities for heritage-led projects, environmental education and public events connected to the port.
Next steps: finalise the substations, fully integrate the management system and progressively activate the photovoltaic fields to support port activities and internal electric mobility.
