The Archaeological Park of Pompeii will host the international G.R.E.E.N. conference (Gardens as Resources for the Enhancement of Environmental and Natural Heritage) on 16–17 April. The event highlights the role of historic gardens and green areas within archaeological sites.
The conference adopts a multidisciplinary perspective, bringing together archaeologists, botanists, landscape architects and conservators to discuss sustainable green management that balances protection, access and landscape values.
Historic gardens in archaeological contexts are more than aesthetic elements: they help reconstruct historical environments, enhance visitor experience and, if managed correctly, support conservation goals. The conference promotes practices that reconcile monument protection with environmental and cultural enhancement.
The event will take place at the Auditorium of the excavations within the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. Entry is free but requires reservation until seats are full. To register: https://www.frcongressi.it/green-conference-2026-registrazione/.
Recommended audience: cultural heritage professionals, archaeological site managers, researchers in botany and archaeology, students and cultural promotion operators.
