Sustainable Development Festival in Pompeii — 20 and 21 May 2026

Location: Pompeii Archaeological Park (Parvula Domus area and experimental fields outside the walls)

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii hosts two days of events for the tenth edition of the Sustainable Development Festival, offering activities aimed at schools, associations and residents interested in agricultural practices that respect the archaeological landscape.

  • 20 May, 10:00–13:00 — Event at the Parvula Domus, the site's cultural and social farm. The program includes a roundtable on social and environmental sustainability, followed by practical workshops in educational gardening, didactic beekeeping and outdoor creative and motor skills labs.
  • 21 May, 10:00–13:00 — Guided visit to the experimental fields outside the walls with CREA experts, focused on sustainable agriculture techniques. Students from the “M.P. Vitruvio” Secondary School (Agriculture course) will join the activities and demonstrations.

Field experiments aim to recover and test ancient crops suitable for the Vesuvius microclimate: trials include spelt, fennel, chickpeas, onion and pumpkin. The goal is to select resilient varieties and adopt farming methods that align with the conservation of the archaeological setting.

The initiative is organized in collaboration with CREA and is designed to promote dialogue between the community, research and UNESCO site management, combining theoretical sessions and experiential paths.
