Autore: Redazione 27/08/2025 15:02

In the heart of Fermo, on the magnificent Piazza del Popolo, stands the Palazzo dei Priori — a building that has for centuries symbolized the power and history of the city. Today, its ancient walls no longer host only the city government, but also an exceptional Museum Hub that houses some of the region’s most precious treasures. Visiting the Museum Hub of Palazzo dei Priori means embarking on a fascinating journey that combines art, civic history, and knowledge, offering a rich and unforgettable cultural experience.

Palazzo dei Priori: A Testament to History and Architecture

The Palazzo dei Priori, with its impressive brick façade and the statue of Pope Sixtus V dominating the square, is an architectural masterpiece whose construction dates back to the 13th century. For over seven hundred years, the building was the political and administrative center of Fermo. Its majestic architecture provides the perfect setting for the collections it preserves, creating a harmonious dialogue between container and content.

A Treasure of Art, Knowledge, and History

The Museum Hub brings together several institutions within its walls, each with its own identity and invaluable heritage:

  • The Civic Art Gallery: the artistic heart of the palace. Here, visitors can admire valuable works ranging from the Renaissance to the Baroque period. Its fame is mainly linked to a world-renowned masterpiece: The Adoration of the Shepherds by Peter Paul Rubens. The presence of a work by such an artist makes the gallery a must-see for all art lovers. In addition to Rubens, the collection includes works by Pomarancio, Pier Francesco Greci, and Andrea da Bologna.
  • The Hall of the Globe (Sala del Mappamondo): one of the most evocative and historic spaces of the entire museum hub. This magnificent 18th-century library takes its name from a grand globe created by Amanzio Moroncelli, which dominates the room. Alongside the splendid view and its collection of ancient books and manuscripts, the hall stands as a symbol of the culture and learning that have animated Fermo for centuries.
  • The Archaeological Museum: this section recounts the history of ancient Firmum Picenum. Through artifacts unearthed in local excavations, the museum documents the life and traditions of the city from its Picene origins to the Roman era.
