A fresh season of archaeological fieldwork has commenced in Policoro, focused on the Sanctuary of Demeter and the hill areas of the Archaeological Park. The operation merges scientific investigation with practical training and involves Italian institutions and students from Germany.
The initiative rests on an international partnership intended to deepen knowledge of Magna Graecia sites in the region and to facilitate exchange of archaeological expertise between the participating institutions.
Besides its scientific aims, the project functions as a training hub: participants gain hands-on experience in excavation, recording and analysis, complementing their university studies with field skills. This model supports professional development and strengthens international research networks.
On a regional level, the project seeks to translate research outcomes into cultural and tourism opportunities: new findings and effective site management can enrich visitor experiences and contribute to sustainable local development.
