Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo: talk on the «Wonders of the Grand Tour»

Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo presents a new appointment of the ilParlatosio series focused on the exhibition Wonders of the Grand Tour, organized by Museo Poldi Pezzoli in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The exhibition — open to visitors until May 4 — retraces the Grand Tour tradition and its long-lasting influence on European collecting and taste.

The talk on April 1 will feature the exhibition curator, Lavinia Galli, in conversation with Stefano Karadjov, director of Fondazione Brescia Musei. The session will provide critical perspectives and new insights into the works on display and the curatorial choices behind the show.

Exhibition highlights

• Roma Antica (1757) by Giovanni Paolo Panini: a landmark work on loan from the MET, shown in Milan for the first time.
• Panini’s Interior of the Pantheon, acquired by the museum in 2024.
• Two previously unseen views by Gaspar van Wittel and a 3rd-century Roman sarcophagus.
• A Ginori porcelain depicting Laocoön and his sons and exclusive examples of micromosaic jewelry from private collections.
• A rare group of fans donated to the museum in 2005 through the bequest of collector Carlo Borgomaneri.
• The exhibition closes with the video work All the Gods (Tutti gli DÈI) by filmmaker Ferzan Ozpetek, offering a contemporary cinematic take on time-travel themes.
