Piazza Venezia reimagined: Futuro a Vista turns the construction site into a mural

In Rome, the Metro construction site at Piazza Venezia has been transformed into a striking public artwork by Pierpaolo Ferrari. Ten construction silos serve as the canvas for an installation designed to engage both residents and visitors.

The project is part of the Murales initiative and was promoted with the support of the city and the Metro C consortium (Vianini Lavori and Webuild). It offers a contemporary visual narrative that connects urban infrastructure and cultural expression.

What the artwork represents

The piece centers on two children looking toward the horizon, evoking wonder, curiosity and a forward-looking optimism. By reframing the construction site, the work becomes a symbolic window onto the city's future rather than a mere obstacle.

Why it matters

  • Urban regeneration: the installation helps integrate infrastructure work with the city’s cultural life.
  • Historical-modern dialogue: the artist bridges Piazza Venezia's ancient heritage with the underground innovation of the new station.
  • Public engagement: intended to be viewed and discussed by the community, it encourages civic participation in urban change.

Practical information

  • Location: Piazza Venezia, Rome.
  • Work: "Futuro a Vista" by Pierpaolo Ferrari, the fourth installment of the Murales project.
  • Viewing: the installation is placed on the construction silos and is visible from outside the site; please respect the area and ongoing works.

The future Venezia Station will extend across eight levels (six underground) at about 45 meters deep and is planned as an archeostation with space for displaying archaeological finds uncovered during excavation. The installation dialogues with nearby cultural landmarks such as Palazzo Venezia, the Vittoriano and the Roman Fora.

Tip: visiting the square in person is the best way to appreciate the scale, detail and urban relationship of the artwork.
