Dates: April 3 - July 6, 2026
Venue: MANN - National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Piazza Museo 19, Naples.
"Parthenope. The Siren and the City" is an exhibition that explores the cultural and historical bond between Naples and the siren Parthenope. The show presents more than 250 works spanning from the 8th century BC to contemporary expressions, connecting archaeological evidence with modern reinterpretations of the myth.
Curated by Francesco Sirano, Massimo Osanna, Raffaella Bosso and Laura Forte, the itinerary highlights ancient artefacts, finds from excavations of metro Lines 1 and 6, exceptional loans and contemporary works that map the siren’s presence across the urban landscape — from ancient coinage to street murals.
The project is the result of institutional collaboration and mixed public-private funding, involving regional authorities and the Ministry of Culture. Several items on display come from private collections and local institutions, some presented to the public for the first time.
Visitor information: the exhibition encourages visitors to discover both the museum displays and the city sites linked to the Parthenope myth, including fountains, churches and historic spots where the siren appears.
