Luine Archaeological Park: reopening on 1 May 2026

Luine Archaeological Park, a sacred hill in Valcamonica with some of the valley's oldest rock carvings, reopens to the public on 1 May 2026 for International Workers' Day.

Why visit

  • Ancient carvings: petroglyphs dating back to the Neolithic, significant for understanding local prehistory.
  • Camunian roses: motifs clearly visible on numbered rocks, notably stones 30, 34 and 104.
  • UNESCO value: the site is part of the UNESCO-recognized area for its archaeological importance.
  • Scenic setting: panoramic location between the Oglio River and Dezzo stream at the foothills of the Orobie Bergamasche.

Practical information

The park reopens with information panels already in place; previous temporary displays have been removed to allow for future installations. Before visiting, check opening hours, access restrictions and parking details on the Darfo Boario Terme municipality website or with local tourist offices.

  • Address: Via Coppelle, 25047 Darfo Boario Terme (BS), Italy.
  • Coordinates: 45.8910065, 10.1784429.
  • Access: verify local directions and parking information before departure.

Preservation rules

  • Do not touch the carvings or apply/remove any materials from the rock surfaces.
  • Follow marked paths to protect rock surfaces and surrounding vegetation.
  • Take your rubbish with you and avoid loud or damaging behaviour around the site.

Visitor tips

  • Visit in the morning for better light on the carvings and milder temperatures.
  • Wear suitable footwear: paths include rocky and grassy sections.
  • Ask local offices about guided tours and educational routes.
