The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved monuments of ancient Rome and a masterpiece of engineering and art. Standing beneath its dome offers a unique experience that blends architecture, history and spiritual atmosphere—an essential stop in the historic center.
The original building was commissioned by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa in the 1st century BC, but the present structure dates to Emperor Hadrian’s reconstruction in the 2nd century AD. Converted into a church in the 7th century, the Pantheon’s new function helped preserve it remarkably well.
The Pantheon sits on Piazza della Rotonda, right in central Rome. Its central position makes it easy to reach on foot from major landmarks such as Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, Campo de’ Fiori and the Spanish Steps.
Since paid entry was introduced for most visitors, booking in advance is advisable, especially during the high season.
Although the interior plan is compact, the Pantheon contains remarkable features:
Most visits take between 20 and 40 minutes; visitors interested in architecture or photography may stay longer to explore details and atmosphere.
Visiting the Pantheon means encountering a rare survivor of antiquity whose technical brilliance and historical resonance continue to inspire. Whether it’s your first time in Rome or a return visit, the monument remains an essential experience.
