Palazzo Valentini Hosts “Italy and Tunisia: Culture and Sharing”

The Metropolitan City of Rome, together with the Tunisian Consulate and Multi Roma, presents a cultural meeting that explores Italy–Tunisia ties through food. The event focuses on two emblematic Tunisian products—dates and harissa—as tools for cultural exchange and valorisation of agri-food heritage.

  • Date: 20 May 2026
  • Start time: 10:30
  • Venue: Sala Sassoli, Palazzo Valentini, Rome
  • Organisers: Tunisian Consulate in Rome, Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in collaboration with Multi Roma

The programme includes institutional speeches and expert contributions that frame Tunisian culinary arts within Mediterranean cultural exchanges. Speakers include the Tunisian Consul, delegates from the Metropolitan City, and project coordinators who will address inclusion policies and initiatives for communities with migrant backgrounds.

Sessions will cover the history of date consumption in Italy and opportunities to increase their use as an alternative to refined sugars, with links to public health and food sustainability. A Tunisian chef will discuss the quality and international relevance of Tunisian production.

The event concludes with a guided tasting of dates and harissa, followed by a buffet of traditional Tunisian dishes. The initiative is aimed at professionals, food enthusiasts and citizens interested in intercultural dialogue and in using historic sites and monuments as meeting places.
