On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March 2026, as part of the 34th edition of the FAI Spring Days, Palazzo Lombardo on Piazza d'Italia in Sassari will be accessible with special openings for the public (suggested donation). This is a rare chance to visit a recently restored historic palace not usually open to visitors.
The building, dating to roughly 150 years ago and restored in 2024, features renovated facades, renewed roofs, restored joinery and modernized systems. Restoration work brought to light decorative ceilings on the main floors — floral motifs, landscapes and allegorical scenes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries — that enrich the palace's historical reading and link it stylistically to other local historic residences.
Visits will be led by Apprendisti Ciceroni (young guides) from local high schools and by students from middle schools and the university, trained to present the building's history and architectural features. Educational activities with primary and secondary schools are planned in Piazza d'Italia during the weekend.
The reopening of Palazzo Lombardo illustrates how conservation and adaptive reuse can revive a historic structure while retaining its identity. The visit allows direct observation of restoration techniques, decorative recovery and the role of local craftsmanship in preserving urban heritage.
For updates on the program, access rules or reservations for special events, consult the official FAI website or the local FAI Delegation communications.
