History and description
Built between the late 12th and mid-13th centuries, the palace mainly served as a seat of justice, first hosting the Maggior Consiglio—from whose number of citizens it takes its name—and later public assemblies and the podestà. Damaged during World War II, it was later restored, making the contrast between the original and reconstructed parts clearly visible, while preserving its exposed brick façade and a grand hall decorated with frescoes, including depictions of the Four Cardinal Virtues.
Curiosities
The distinction between the original and restored sections is highlighted by a row of protruding bricks.
Access
The palace is accessible exclusively for evening events, usually at a cost of around €13, which must be booked in advance.
How to reach it
Located in the historic center of Treviso, specifically in Piazza dei Signori, the palace can be reached on foot or via Treviso Centrale railway station.
As the official symbol of Treviso, the Palazzo dei Trecento—with its long political history—offers visitors a glimpse into the city’s central role in the public life of Veneto.
