Palazzo Buonaccorsi – a Baroque jewel of Macerata

Autore: Redazione 24/08/2025 10:20

History and description

Built starting in the 17th century, when Simone Buonaccorsi commissioned the transformation of pre‑existing buildings into a Baroque residence, the palace was completed in 1718 with the addition of an inner courtyard featuring a garden, a balustrade, and several statues of Hercules. Restored again by the Buonaccorsi family in 1853, the palace later fell into decline before being purchased by the Municipality, which first made it the seat of the Academy of Fine Arts and later the home of civic collections. Inside, it displays a sumptuous style blending Baroque and Rococo, with oak flooring, loggias, decorated ceilings, and numerous grand halls. Among these, the most notable is the Hall of the Aeneid, frescoed by Michelangelo Ricciolini.

Curiosities

The Italian‑style garden within the palace is one of the few 18th‑century examples still intact and open to visitors.

Access

Open daily with morning and afternoon visiting hours, the palace can be visited at the cost of €9.50, with reductions and free entry available under specific conditions.

How to reach it

Located in the heart of Macerata’s historic center, the building is easily reachable on foot.

A historic landmark of the Marche region, Palazzo Buonaccorsi is an ideal destination for lovers of art, culture, and history.
