History and description
Built between the 16th and 17th centuries by the most important aristocratic families of Genoa, the three Palazzi dei Rolli—Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco, and Palazzo Doria-Tursi—are multi-story buildings featuring frescoed halls, collections of Italian and Flemish paintings, and monumental staircases once used to welcome distinguished guests. Offering a variety of architectural styles that reflect the evolution of Genoese art, the palaces have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in recognition of their cultural value.
Curiosities
They were sketched over a hundred times by the painter Rubens, who, after his visit to Genoa in 1607, collected his works in the volume Palazzi di Genova.
Access
Directly connected to the Strada Nuova Museums, the palaces can be visited at the cost of €9, with authorized guided tours available, as well as reductions and specific free entry days.
How to reach them
Located in the very historic center of Genoa, the palaces can be reached on foot, by metro (San Giorgio stop), or by bus and tram from Piazza del Portello.
A direct testimony of Genoese aristocratic life, the Palazzi dei Rolli are an unmissable stop for a complete itinerary through the region!
