Numismatic section at MANN reopens: visits from May 25
The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) reopens its numismatic section to the public starting Monday, May 25. The renewed layout highlights the Medagliere with an exhibition designed for both scholarly study and public enjoyment.
The revamped display goes beyond a catalogue of objects, proposing a chronological and thematic route that traces the evolution of coinage and circulation contexts — from ancient Greek issues to Italian mints and the markets and courts of the Renaissance.
- Collection: over 6,000 coins preserved in the Medagliere;
- New additions: recent integrations including 130 pieces of jewelry and four exceptionally rare gold textiles;
- Curators: exhibition curated by Renata Cantilena and Floriana Miele, with scientific collaboration from Lucia Amalia Scatozza for ancient jewelry;
- Funding: project made possible by an extraordinary grant from the Ministry of Culture;
- Purpose: to provide interpretative tools and exhibition paths that are accessible to both specialists and general visitors.
Practical information:
- Opening to the public: May 25, 2026;
- Location: National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Piazza Museo, 19 – 80135 Naples (NA);
