Francesco Vezzoli’s ‘Nike Metafisica’ at Museo di Santa Giulia

Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia has added Nike Metafisica (2019) by Francesco Vezzoli to its collection. The sculpture is installed in the Viridarium, the museum's garden-sculpture area designed to place contemporary works in direct conversation with archaeological remains and the historical setting.

The acquisition is part of the Palcoscenici archeologici initiative, which promotes encounters between contemporary artistic practices and archaeological sites, enhancing layered readings of cultural heritage.

Why visit

The work reinterprets the classical iconography of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, incorporating references to 20th-century metaphysical painting. This contemporary approach to ancient forms strengthens the relationship between historical artifacts and current artistic production.
