Maggiolata Lucignanese 2026: Lucignano blooms again with tradition and Olympic theme

From May 28 to June 7 the village of Lucignano fills with color for the 87th edition of the Maggiolata, an event that turns streets, squares and balconies into an open-air garden. The festival combines Valdichiana popular traditions with parades, music and floats decorated entirely with fresh flowers.

Dates and highlights

  • Maggiolina Week: May 28 to June 7 — food stalls, local products and evening events throughout the historic center.
  • Sunday, May 31: main parade with floral floats and the Flower Train (historic train departing from Arezzo).
  • Monday, June 1 (nighttime event): evening performances and special atmosphere in the village.
  • Sunday, June 7: final day with additional parades and shows.

Why attend

The Maggiolata is deeply rooted in Tuscan agrarian culture: originally a ritual to celebrate spring, today it is a major tourist event drawing thousands of visitors. The allegorical floats, created by the four historic districts — Via dell'Amore, Porta San Giovanni, Porta San Giusto and Porta Murata — are decorated with tens of thousands of carnations; each float uses about 20,000 carnations.

What to see and do

  • Brass bands, folk groups and street performers accompany the parades.
  • Floral displays on balconies, doors and squares create a scenic route through the village.
  • The Municipal Museum with the famous Golden Tree and the artistic heritage of the concentric medieval layout.
  • Side events organized by the Maggiolata Committee and the districts, with strong involvement from young volunteers.

Practical information

For visitors arriving by rail, the Flower Train (May 31) offers a journey on historic carriages from Arezzo to Lucignano. Schedules and ticketing are usually published by the Maggiolata Committee and partner associations; check official updates before planning your trip.

The Maggiolata remains one of Tuscany's most evocative spring events, perfect for those seeking tradition, local craftsmanship and a festive atmosphere in an Italian borgo.
