Palazzo dei Papi illuminated in magenta to raise awareness of eosinophilic conditions

On 18 May, for World Eosinophilic Conditions (EOS) Day, the Municipality of Viterbo joined a national awareness campaign by lighting the Palazzo dei Papi in magenta, the colour chosen to represent support for people affected by these often invisible conditions. The action is part of the broader "Light Italy Magenta" campaign aimed at increasing public awareness and solidarity.

  • Key dates: 18 May 2026 (World EOS Day) and 22 May 2026 (World Eosinophilic Esophagitis Day).
  • Location: Palazzo dei Papi, Viterbo, Italy.
  • Access: public illumination visible from outside; free to view.
  • Organisers: Municipality of Viterbo in collaboration with ESEO Italia APS and international patient associations.

The municipality chose to use a landmark monument to increase visibility for conditions such as eosinophilic esophagitis, which can severely affect everyday life. People living with these disorders may face dietary restrictions, pain and uncertainty; the symbolic lighting aims to promote understanding and community support.

This event forms part of coordinated activities across May, the awareness month, including information campaigns, hospital open days, teleconsultations and medical training sessions. In Italy the campaign involves more than 50 hospital teams and several patient organisations to improve diagnosis, information and patient care.

Visitor information: the lighting can be seen from public areas during the evenings indicated; no ticket or reservation is required. For more details on related events and resources, check information published by ESEO Italia APS and local organisers.
