Museum Dreams is the first major exhibition in Italy devoted to Isaac Julien, a leading visual artist working with moving images. Curated for the architectural and conceptual setting of Gres Art 671 in Bergamo, the show brings together works that span film, dance, photography, music and sculpture.
The retrospective features five large-scale film installations, accompanied by sculptures, photographs and archival materials. Julien creates layered narratives that explore desire, social memory and the institutional role of museums, making exhibition spaces an active component of the artworks.
The exhibition is conceived as a sensory journey: visitors are encouraged to move freely between installations where image, sound and architecture intersect, becoming a "mobile spectator." The works challenge conventional narrative logic and offer fresh perspectives on contemporary events and memory.
Visitor tips: allow sufficient time for each installation and pay attention to how moving images interact with the gallery architecture. Check updated schedules and any special programming with the organizer before you go.
