Borgogna Museum: a jewel of art in Vercelli

Autore: Redazione 20/09/2025 14:06

The Borgogna Museum in Vercelli is one of the most important art galleries in Piedmont. Though less well-known than Turin’s major museums, it houses a remarkably rich collection that spans the centuries — from medieval to modern art — with a special focus on the great masters of Italian and Flemish painting.

The Collection: art through the centuries

The museum owes its existence and name to Antonio Borgogna, a wealthy citizen of Vercelli who, at the end of the 19th century, dedicated his life to collecting works of art. His vision was to create a public institution — a legacy to be shared with the city.

The permanent collection, spread over two floors, is a true anthology of European painting. Among the most significant pieces are:

  • Renaissance paintings: masterpieces by great masters of the Piedmontese and Lombard Renaissance schools.
  • Flemish and Dutch art: a prestigious section devoted to 17th-century painting from the Low Countries, offering a vivid insight into this refined artistic tradition.
  • Sculpture and decorative arts: sculptures, furniture, and decorative objects enrich the museum, providing a broader view of the artistic taste and lifestyle of past centuries.

Visitor Information

  • Address: Via Antonio Borgogna, 4, 13100 Vercelli (VC)
  • Opening Hours: open from Friday to Sunday, continuous hours
  • Tickets: full price €6.00; discounts available for students and groups; free admission for children

The Borgogna Museum is an unmissable stop for anyone wishing to discover a treasure of Italian and European art away from the more crowded tourist routes — a quiet and elegant corner where centuries of beauty still speak to the heart.
