Rome civic museums: highlights for the week of 20–26 March 2026
The Capitoline Superintendency presents a full week of openings, guided tours and public events across Rome’s municipal museums. Below is a concise, practical guide to exhibitions and activities scheduled from 20 to 26 March 2026.
Featured exhibitions
À Rome la nuit by Hervé Gloaguen opens on Wednesday 25 March at the Museo di Roma in Trastevere: a selection of color photographs taken between 1975 and 1995 that depict the city’s nocturnal life of that period. The show runs until 6 September 2026.
On the ground floor of the same museum, Lungo le Strade Blu by Francesco Conversano (black-and-white and color images from the United States, 1999–2017) is on view until 4 October 2026.
World Water Day (Sunday 22 March): guided tours and itineraries
For World Water Day the Superintendency has organized guided visits and walking routes connecting Rome’s water-related sites. Reservations are mandatory at 060608 (service active daily 9:00–19:00). Key information:
- The Greeks in Rome – Capitoline Museums (Villa Caffarelli): free guided tours of the exhibition with immersive video projections. Sessions at 11:30 (Italian) and 16:30 (English). Reservation required; museum entry ticket not included. Max 25 participants per session.
- Water itineraries (reservation required):
- 09:30 — The nymphaeum in via degli Annibaldi and reflections of water. Meeting point: via degli Annibaldi corner via del Fagutale. Max 8 participants. Not suitable for visitors with limited mobility.
- 10:30 — The waters of the Circus Maximus: focus on water use in antiquity. Max 15 participants.
- 10:30 — The giants of water at the Parco degli Acquedotti: walk among the remains of several Roman aqueducts. Meeting point: Acquedotto Claudio (via Lemonia corner via Publicola). Max 25 participants.
- 11:00 — Walk on the Janiculum: routes exploring maritime anecdotes of the patriots, from Porta San Pancrazio to the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola. Max 25 participants.
Books and talks (Palazzo Braschi)
Museo di Roma at Palazzo Braschi hosts editorial presentations and lectures. This week's schedule:
- Friday 20 March, 17:00 — Presentation of a volume on Rocco Falciano with curators, historians and a musical interlude. Free admission until seats are full (Sala Tenerani).
- Tuesday 24 March, 16:30 — Lecture on accessibility and mediation in cultural sites, with inclusion projects presented by Fabio Fornasari. Free admission until seats are full.
- Thursday 26 March, 17:00 — Presentation of the book on Francesco Antonio Franzoni (1734–1818) with contributions from art historians and museum professionals. Free admission until seats are full.
Other venues and activities
- Villa Torlonia: the Antonio Scordia retrospective at Casino dei Principi is extended to 6 April 2026. The Serra Moresca is open Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–16:00 (last entry 15:20).
- Casina delle Civette: Sunday 22 March at 10:30 an aMICi visit with LIS interpreter focusing on Paolo Antonio Paschetto’s stained-glass designs. Reservation required; limited places.
- Ara Pacis: family activity for Father’s Day on Sunday 22 March at 10:30 — “Me and Dad: family portraits at the Ara Pacis”. Reservation required; limited places.
- Planetario di Roma: regular shows for adults and children continue (titles include Return to the Stars, Interstellar – the Voyager mission, The Magic of the Aurora Borealis, and children’s programs). Tickets available online at museiincomuneroma.vivaticket.it.
- Thursday 26 March, 14:00 — aMICi visit with LIS interpreter to the Imperial Forums (departure from piazza Madonna di Loreto). Reservation required; limited places.
