Cagliari Civic Museums: exhibitions, workshops and guided tours

The Cagliari Civic Museums present a varied programme for different audiences: from 20th-century collections in the Municipal Art Gallery to temporary shows at the City Palace and the Stefano Cardu Siamese Art Museum. In addition to free visits, there are educational activities, children’s workshops and themed guided tours.

Highlights

Permanent collections worth seeing include the Ingrao Collection (featuring 20th-century masters such as Balla, Boccioni, Morandi) and the Civic Collection of Sardinian Artists, which includes a room dedicated to Francesco Ciusa. Featured temporary exhibitions:

  • Ritorni. The masters of the Twentieth Century in dialogue | Faces and stories of Sardinia (1913–1964) – on display until 30 June 2026, showing sixteen much-loved works.
  • Antonio Ligabue. The major exhibition – hosted at the City Palace, with guided visits and related events; exhibition period indicated: from 28 November 2025 to 7 June 2026.
  • Tea and its ceramics – at the Stefano Cardu Siamese Art Museum, featuring pieces usually in storage and insights into tea rituals.

  • Thursday 14 May, 16:30 – “First steps in reading”: readings for children 0–2 years. Free entry; max 15 participants; reservation required.
  • Sunday 17 May, 10:30 – “Arts and Gardens”: workshop for children 6–10 years. Fee €4; max 15 participants; reservation required.
  • Sunday 17 May, 16:00 – special guided tours of the collections and temporary exhibition. Supplement €3 in addition to the standard ticket; reservation required.
  • Wednesday 20 May, 16:30 – art-themed readings for children 3–5 years followed by a creative workshop. Fee €4; limited places; reservation required.
  • Thursday 21 May, 16:30 – creative workshop for children 6–10 years: spring landscapes with recycled materials. Fee €4; limited places; reservation required.
  • Saturday 23 May, 11:00 – Insta-Walk in the Public Gardens: a photo walk for users with a public Instagram profile. Fee €8; maximum 10 participants; reservation required. Photos tagged @museicivicicagliari may be reshared by the museum's page.
  • Sunday 24 May, 11:00 and 16:00 – special guided tours of the Antonio Ligabue exhibition with the Civic Museums' art historians. Supplement €3 in addition to the standard ticket; reservation required.

Practical information

Bookings: required for workshops, guided tours and the Insta-Walk. Free admission to exhibitions does not normally require booking unless specified for a specific event.

Fees: children's activities typically €4; guided tours and some events include a €3 supplement to the entrance ticket; Insta-Walk €8.
