Special openings at Bologna's Civic Museums for Easter

For Easter Sunday (April 5) and Easter Monday (April 6) all sites of the Civic Museums of Bologna will welcome visitors from 10:00 to 19:00. The program includes permanent collections, temporary exhibitions and a range of activities aimed at families, students and art lovers.

Temporary exhibitions to see (open until April 6)

Two major exhibitions remain on display over the holiday weekend:

  • Graphic Japan. From Hokusai to Manga – Museo Civico Archeologico: an exhibition tracing the visual development of Japanese print and graphic art from the Edo period to the present, shown in Italy for the first time. Curated by Rossella Menegazzo and Eleonora Lanza and produced by MondoMostre, the show opened on November 20, 2025 and has attracted substantial audiences.
  • Bartolomeo Cesi (1556–1629). Painting of silence in the age of the Carracci – Lapidario of the Museo Civico Medievale: the first solo exhibition dedicated to Bartolomeo Cesi, a key figure in devotional painting in Bologna between the 16th and 17th centuries. Curated by Vera Fortunati, the exhibition highlights his contemplative approach, distinct from that of the Carracci.

Weekend activities and services

Visitors spending the holiday weekend at the museums can take part in a variety of offerings:

  • scheduled guided tours of exhibition rooms;
  • in-gallery mediation and talks for groups and families;
  • educational workshops for children and teenagers to introduce them to museum collections;
  • consult the official museum calendar for a full schedule of events and practical details.

Practical information

Special opening hours: 10:00 – 19:00 on both Sunday, April 5 and Monday, April 6, across all Civic Museums venues. For ticketing, reservations and the timetable of guided tours please visit the official website: www.museibologna.it.

The temporary exhibitions mentioned close on April 6, so the Easter weekend is the final opportunity to see them.
