MUDEC – Museum of Cultures: A Bridge Between Worlds

Autore: Redazione 12/09/2025 13:22

The MUDEC – Museum of Cultures in Milan is a museum and multifunctional cultural center that stands out for its international spirit and focus on extra-European cultures. Opened in 2015, it is housed in a modern and avant-garde building designed by architect David Chipperfield, perfectly integrated into the urban setting of the former Ansaldo industrial area, now redeveloped as a district dedicated to art, culture, and creativity.

A Journey Through the Cultures of the World

MUDEC is not a traditional museum — it is a place of encounter and dialogue between the cultures of the world. Its permanent collections, which include thousands of works and artifacts from Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania, tell the story and traditions of distant peoples, offering visitors a unique opportunity to discover the diversity and richness of global cultural heritage.

Among the exhibited works are ritual masks, tribal sculptures, textiles, ceramics, and everyday objects, all bearing witness to the creativity and ingenuity of extra-European civilizations.

International Temporary Exhibitions

In addition to its permanent collection, MUDEC is renowned for its high-profile temporary exhibitions, which range from ancient and modern art to contemporary art, photography, and design.

Through collaborations with museums and cultural institutions worldwide, MUDEC has hosted exhibitions dedicated to major artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Roy Lichtenstein, attracting a large and diverse audience.

These temporary exhibitions offer opportunities to explore specific themes, discover emerging talents, and reflect on the dynamics of contemporary society.

A Multifunctional Cultural Hub

MUDEC is much more than a museum — it is a vibrant cultural center offering a wide range of activities and services. Inside, visitors will find a bistro, a restaurant, a thematic bookstore, a conference hall, and spaces for workshops, educational activities, and cultural events.

It aims to be a lively and inclusive space, capable of engaging audiences of all ages and offering a rich and varied experience — from discovering art to participating in public talks and creative laboratories.
