Exhibition extended at Palazzo Gopcevich: "La Fototeca in piazza"

The Sala Selva at Palazzo Gopcevich hosts the photographic exhibition "La Fototeca in piazza. Scatti di storia e storie", now extended until Sunday, April 12. The show presents a photographic journey through Piazza Unità d'Italia using material from the Fototeca of the Civic Museums of History and Art.

The images trace architectural and urban changes as well as everyday life in the square: public gatherings, official ceremonies, market scenes, historic cafés and the trams that shaped the city's modernization. Some photographs recall pivotal episodes, including the arrival of ships in 1918, difficult days in 1953 and the emotional return of Trieste to Italy in 1954.

Highlights

The exhibition features work by more than 40 photographers; notable contributors include:

  • Carlo Wulz and Giuseppe Wulz
  • Ferdinando Ramann
  • Carlo Wernigg and Pietro Opiglia
  • Adriano de Rota, Ugo Borsatti
  • Agenzia Giornalfoto, Tullio Stravisi
  • Gianni Berengo Gardin, Franco Fontana, Marino Sterle

In addition to photographs, the display includes everyday objects — traditional games, a period mandolin, barber tools, antique coffee cups — as well as unpublished archival items, historic cameras and travel guides, creating a layered narrative of the city's social and material culture.
