Located in Potenza, the MOON – Museo Officina degli Oggetti Narranti (Museum Workshop of Narrative Objects) is far more than a traditional museum: it is a laboratory of creativity and storytelling. Founded by the association “La Luna al Guinzaglio”, this unique space is dedicated to promoting cultural accessibility and local development through art and the power of objects to tell stories. At the MOON, everyday materials come to life — transformed into narrators of events, emotions, and traditions — in an interactive and engaging experience that stimulates imagination and invites visitors, young and old alike, to see the world through new eyes.
The Exhibition Hall and the Beauty of Reuse
At the heart of the MOON is “La Sala Espositiva e i Materiali Rifiutati”, managed by the cooperative Il Salone dei Rifiutati. This project is based on a powerful idea: to give new life to discarded and rejected materials, turning them into creative and narrative resources.
The Exhibition Hall is a dynamic and flexible space. More than a place to admire works made from reclaimed materials, it also serves as a community hub, hosting temporary exhibitions, live events, and installations. Equipped with a full audio service, it can accommodate a wide range of cultural activities. The goal is to enhance both the exhibitions created over the years by La Luna al Guinzaglio and new productions that promote empowerment and creative sustainability.
The Rejected Materials – The Heart of the Project
One of the museum’s most original features is its Materials Atelier or Emporium, where industrial scraps, unused stock, and leftover materials donated by companies are collected and displayed. These resources, freely available to the public, become the raw material for artistic experimentation. The Emporium doesn’t just provide materials — it offers inspiration and guidance, encouraging visitors to explore, create, and collaborate while rediscovering the beauty hidden in what society often discards.
Il Salone dei Rifiutati: Art, Sustainability, and Social Innovation
The cooperative Il Salone dei Rifiutati, founded in 2016, manages the MOON and continues the artistic and educational work initiated in 2008 by La Luna al Guinzaglio. Its mission is to promote sustainable development through art and beauty, transforming waste into opportunities for reflection and creativity.
MOON is part of a broader network of projects that link art, education, and circular economy, such as Officina Rifare, which gives new life to discarded materials by turning them into new products. The museum also participates in the Euro-Mediterranean Museum of the Rejected Object (RI.M.E.M.O.RI.), an intercultural artistic initiative exploring how ordinary objects can be reimagined through creative reuse.
Visitor Information
Visiting the MOON means stepping into a world where art, sustainability, and imagination converge — a place that celebrates the creative potential of what is often overlooked and transforms the concept of waste into a source of beauty, storytelling, and social change.
