Montecarotto: MAM presents “Need For Peace” for the Gran Tour dei Musei 2026

The Museo d’Arte Moderna e della Mail Art (MAM) in Montecarotto is taking part in the Gran Tour dei Musei 2026 with the exhibition Need For Peace. The display features 130 works from the museum’s archives and includes original documents from the 1990 "Manifesto for Peace" seminar.

The exhibition highlights Mail Art as an international artistic practice that turns postal objects into works of protest, memory and research. It underlines how collective creativity can foster a culture of solidarity and dialogue against violence.

Highlights

  • 130 works from the museum archives, including envelopes, postcards and packages addressing the theme of peace;
  • Original archival documents tied to historical projects such as “Dossier Pace cento artisti per la pace” and “Guerra alla Guerra”;
  • An overview of international Mail Art as a form of social and political expression.

Opening hours (special programme)

  • Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May: afternoons from 15:00 to 19:00;
  • Saturday 23 May (Night of Museums): evening opening from 20:00 to 23:00;
  • Sunday 24 May: visits from 15:00 to 19:00.

Dedication: the exhibition is dedicated to the memory of artist Ruggero Maggi (1950–2025), whose reflections on peace are woven into the show.

Practical information

  • Location: MAM - Museo d’Arte Moderna e della Mail Art, Montecarotto (check the museum’s official channels for address and visitor information);
  • Admission and visit arrangements: check for possible fees and booking requirements with the museum;
  • Who should attend: students, researchers, Mail Art enthusiasts and anyone interested in peace and cultural memory.

Groups and educational visits should contact the museum in advance to organise guided tours and services. The exhibition is an opportunity to see how collective artistic practices document and promote civic and cultural themes.
