Mountain of Health: free treks for prevention and wellbeing

The national initiative led by the Central Medical Commission of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) offers free guided treks across Italy designed to combine physical activity, health education and environmental respect.

Purpose: promote healthy lifestyles, raise awareness of the links between human, animal and environmental health (One Health), and encourage local territory knowledge through guided walks.

• 10 May 2026 – Lakes of Alta Val di Cedra and Bressanone (CAI section of Reggio Emilia)
• 10 May 2026 – Serramazzoni-Monfestino loop and Bucamante Waterfalls (CAI sub-section of Rubiera)
• 10 May 2026 – Altino beech forest (CAI sections of Macerata and Amandola)
• 10 May 2026 – Pizzo di Ovindoli (CAI sections of Sulmona and Ortona)
• 10 May 2026 – North Etna (Sicilian CAI sections)
• 17 May 2026 – Monte Subasio (CAI sections of Foligno, Spoleto and Macerata)
• 24 May 2026 – Val di Mello (CAI section of Milan)
• 24 May 2026 – Monte Bondone (CAI section of Verona)
• 24 May 2026 – Path of the Gods (CAI section of Castellammare di Stabia)
• 29 May 2026 – Rifugio San Sebastiano at Passo Duran: prevention point during the Giro d'Italia passage

Practical information

Participation: free and open to all ages and fitness levels; contact the local CAI sections organizing each trek for registration, meeting points and equipment details.

Topics covered: nutrition, regular physical activity, mountain first aid, managing anxiety during hikes, and One Health insights.

Tips for participants

• Wear appropriate footwear and mountain clothing.
• Bring water, sun protection and a basic first aid kit.
• Follow organizer instructions and keep trails clean: take your waste with you and respect the environment.
