Caffarella Green Fest 2026: a day about wetlands and biodiversity

Date: 17 May 2026 • Location: Parco della Caffarella, Casa del Parco "Casale Vigna Cardinali" • Hours: continuous activities from 9:00 to 19:00.

The third Caffarella Green Fest, organized by the youth group Progetto SEEDS, brings science outreach and practical activities to the Parco Regionale dell'Appia Antica around the theme "Wetlands, treasure chests of biodiversity." The festival gathers environmental associations, researchers and volunteers to discuss management, threats and the ecological value of these sensitive ecosystems.

Program overview

  • 09:00 - 19:00: ongoing activities, workshops and information points.
  • 10:00 - 11:00: outdoor yoga session led by instructor Alessio Di Renzo.
  • 11:00 - 13:00: interdisciplinary guided walks by Progetto SEEDS (geological and ecological routes).
  • 11:00: opening and Talk I — "Antonio Cederna: green and blue at the heart of Rome."
  • Afternoon highlights: nature quiz with prizes and a scientific aperitif with low-volume live music.
  • 15:00: Talk II — "Wetland Ecology: Functions, Threats and Conservation"; round table with the ARCARoma research project and experts.
  • 17:00: Talk III — "Coastal lakes and territorial evolution" with focus on Agro Pontino and Circeo and presentation of the Atlas of Amphibians and Reptiles.
  • Permanent workshops: creative recycling (Tetrapak), theatre workshop, children's readings, macro photography, naturalistic watercolor and arthropod labs.

Practical information and tips

  • Bookings: guided walks can be reserved; check availability on site or via the festival's communication channels.
  • Access: the Casa del Parco "Casale Vigna Cardinali" is the meeting point. Wear comfortable shoes and suitable clothing for light trekking.
  • Bring: water, hat, sunscreen and a light jacket for variable weather.
  • Respect the park: keep paths clean, avoid disturbing wildlife and follow guides' instructions; music volume kept moderate to protect species in the area.
  • Family activities: children's educational workshops, including an entomological treasure hunt on the preceding Saturday and a recycled-material art workshop on Sunday.

The festival is a practical opportunity to learn about urban wetlands and conservation best practices. Participation supports science outreach led by young researchers from Progetto SEEDS and strengthens ties between local communities, NGOs and environmental institutions.
