On Saturday 23 May 2026 the Kolymbethra Garden in the Valley of the Temples (Agrigento) will hold a guided walk exploring the relationship between water and biodiversity. The activity is part of World Biodiversity Day events and highlights wetland habitats, plant species and the microhabitats that characterise the site.
The walk, titled "Discovering the riparian wood", guides participants along the stream that crosses Kolymbethra to observe riparian vegetation — including white poplars, willows and tamarisks — and the microhabitats that enrich the wetland ecosystem. Biologists and naturalist guides will discuss the role of water in the garden's history, the present plant species and practical conservation measures to protect local biodiversity.
This event is suited to outdoor enthusiasts and anyone wishing to learn practical aspects of nature conservation: direct plant observation, species recognition and notes on animals associated with wetland areas. The initiative runs with the patronage of the Municipality of Agrigento and in collaboration with the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples.
Practical advice: wear shoes suitable for wet terrain, bring water and sun protection; the visit is suitable for a wide audience and prior reservation is recommended if required by organisers.
Location: Viale Caduti di Marzabotto, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italia
