The Last Utopia. Ashes and Shoots, Chronicles from the Present is a site-specific installation by Mario Ceroli on view at 21Art Treviso, curated by Cesare Biasini Selvaggi. The show invites visitors into a contemplative and materially charged environment.
The work greets visitors with a “floor of golden stones”, a tactile metaphor for human ambition, paired with lapis-lazuli blue wooden inserts that reference painterly traditions. Oxidised metal nets on the background evoke scenes of war and destruction, creating a tension between aspiration and reality. Ceroli’s approach digs into time, converting debris into visionary form.
The installation offers a direct encounter with materials and symbols that explore ambition, failure and hope. Its strong scenic presence makes it relevant both for the general public and for professionals and enthusiasts of contemporary art.
Mario Ceroli (born 1938) is a central figure in post-war Italian art, renowned for his wooden sculptures and large-scale scenographic works. His practice spans theatre, cinema and public commissions and includes major national and international exhibitions.
