Fuorisalone 2026: Milan’s historic palaces open for Design Week
During the Milan Design Week several historic palaces become exhibition spaces: noble courtyards, grand staircases and hidden gardens host site-specific installations and collective shows. Below is a practical guide to the main venues with schedules and visiting tips.
- Palazzo Litta – Corso Magenta 24. A notable example of Lombard barocchetto, hosting site-specific installations and group presentations. Opening hours: 21–25 April 2026, 10:00–20:00 (last entry 19:00); 26 April 2026, 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:00).
- Palazzo dei Giureconsulti – Piazza dei Mercanti 2. Historic building located on the ancient Roman forum, hosting Masterly – The Dutch in Milano across multiple rooms. Opening hours: 21 April 2026, 11:00–16:30; 22–25 April 2026, 11:00–20:00; 26 April 2026, 11:00–15:00.
- Palazzo Isimbardi. A residence famous for its "secret" garden in the Monforte area: the cloister hosts the Aedes Memoriae installation in the context of the BECOMING event for Rimadesio's 70th anniversary.
- Other open palaces: Palazzo Visconti, Palazzo Crespi, Palazzo Acerbi, Residenza Vignale, Palazzo Moscova, Palazzo Donizetti, Fondazione Istituto dei Ciechi and Palazzo Arese Borromeo (Cesano Maderno) participate in the Fuorisalone circuit with exhibitions and installations.
Practical tips for visiting
- Plan your route: venues are mainly in the historic centre but spread out; check maps and opening times to optimize movements.
- Visit early or close to closing time to avoid queues; some installations have limited access.
- Check for paid entries or mandatory reservations for site-specific shows.
- Many courtyards and gardens are accessible only during events; follow signage and respect designated paths.
The Fuorisalone is a unique chance to access often-closed monumental spaces and to see how contemporary design interacts with Milan’s architectural heritage.
