Marinella Senatore at GNAMC: what to see and when

The exhibition "Artist at GNAMC. Marinella Senatore: protagonist 2026" runs from 28 April to 31 December 2026 at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Viale delle Belle Arti 131, Rome. The display gathers more than forty works including tapestries, drawings, collages, light sculpture and a public programme rooted in participatory practice.

Main works and exhibition focus

The centerpiece is a set of four previously unseen tapestries titled The Theatre of Commons, each measuring 300 × 200 cm, made in collaboration with the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai. The exhibition also features:

  • 32 drawings from the series It's Time to Go Back to the Street;
  • 5 drawings inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy, graphite and charcoal on acid-free paper;
  • 2 previously unseen collages The Creation of a Context with gold leaf and mixed media;
  • the light sculpture Remember The First Time You Saw Your Name (2020), serving as a poetic signal before entering the main room.

The textile work is both a technical and symbolic core of the project: hand embroidery preserves collaborative and craft practices that are key to the works' meaning.

Public programme and participatory activities

The exhibition operates as a platform: the School of Narrative Dance, founded by Senatore in 2012, informs the project through body-based practices and collective learning. The public programme includes talks, performances and workshops designed to make visitors active participants.

The opening public event is scheduled for 28 April 2026 at 11:00: Io contengo moltitudini, a session for students of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma featuring an introduction to the artist's methods and a short shared experience.

Why visit

At GNAMC the room becomes an active device—more than a retrospective, it is an evolving project that generates works, relationships and public moments throughout the year.
