From 1 April to 1 May 2026, Palazzo Grifoni in San Miniato hosts the photographic exhibition “Marianne of Italy – The Courage of Women”, a project by photographer Riccardo Bagnoli curated by Paola Severini Melograni. The show features eighty Italian women whose roles in civil society reflect leadership, commitment and resilience.
The portraits, shot in iconic locations such as Villa Medici and the Teatro Quirino, draw on the allegorical figure of Marianne: each image conveys a personal and collective story linked to the advancement of women’s rights since the universal suffrage of 1946.
The exhibition is organised by the Centro Commerciale Naturale of San Miniato and hosted by the Fondazione CR San Miniato. Institutional support underlines a commitment to promoting female talent and equality.
This San Miniato stop is part of the 80th anniversary commemorations of women’s suffrage in Italy and provides visitors with a chance to consider the role of women as architects of the future within a notable historic palazzo.
Visitor tips: plan your visit on a weekend, check for guided tours or related events at the venue, and allow enough time to read captions and engage with the portraits.
