Mad Jacques Trek Roya expands into Italy with demanding mountain stages, an overnight stay in a historic fort and a focus on cross-border ecotourism. The event offers two formats to suit different experience levels and provides an immersive route through the Franco-Italian Alps.

• Dates: 27-31 May 2026
• Formats: 5-day (27-31/5) and 3-day (29-31/5) options
• 5-day route: 55 km total, approx. 3,200 m positive elevation gain, starting from La Brigue (770 m, Mercantour National Park)
• 3-day route: 24 km, approx. 1,400 m positive elevation gain, starting from Limone Piemonte
• Bivouac: overnight at Fort Central on the Colle di Tenda, 2,000 m, an old military fort on the border
• Finish: Castérino, hosting the Ecotourism Festival with local producers, workshops, guided walks and outdoor activities

Practical information for participants:

• Difficulty: the 5-day format is challenging with high mountain passes and technical sections; appropriate fitness and alpine trekking experience are recommended.
• Recommended gear: sturdy hiking boots, layered clothing, waterproof/windproof jacket, technical sleeping bag for bivouac, headlamp, basic first-aid kit, water and food supplies.
• Logistics: plan transport to the chosen departure point (La Brigue or Limone Piemonte) and return from Castérino; check organizer instructions and registration requirements.
• Sustainability: the initiative supports sustainable cross-border itineraries; follow trail etiquette, pack out what you pack in and adhere to guide directions.
