Art Beyond Borders: The Museum of Contemporary Art of Moliterno

Autore: Redazione 08/09/2025 20:21

In the heart of the Lucanian village of Moliterno lies a cultural institution with a distinctly international scope: the MAM – Museum of Contemporary Art. This museum is not a standalone entity but part of a broader network — the Aiello Museums of Moliterno — which transforms the town into a true artistic hub. The MAM stands out for its collection dedicated to contemporary art, housed in an ancient residence in the Castello district, where the charm of history meets the expressive power of modern creativity. Experiencing a world-class collection within the intimate setting of a mountain village is what makes the MAM such a unique and fascinating destination.

A Global Collection in a Timeless Setting

The exhibition path takes visitors on a journey that transcends borders, showcasing a remarkable permanent collection featuring works by world-renowned artists such as Mimmo Paladino, Achille Bonito Oliva, Umberto Mastroianni, and Hans Hartung. The richness and diversity of these works make the MAM a one-of-a-kind institution in Southern Italy, offering an unexpectedly sophisticated and emotionally engaging cultural experience. The collection is not merely displayed but presented within a narrative context, exploring the movements, themes, and revolutions that have defined 20th- and 21st-century art.

A Dynamic Center for Contemporary Creativity

Beyond its permanent collection, the museum hosts a vibrant schedule of temporary exhibitions, featuring both emerging and established artists. This dynamic approach keeps the MAM in constant evolution, fostering a living dialogue between the public and the ever-changing landscape of contemporary art. Together with the other Aiello Museums, it represents a virtuous model of cultural regeneration, demonstrating how art and creativity can breathe new life into a territory, attracting visitors and promoting a modern, cosmopolitan image of Basilicata.
