The Natural History Museum of Grosseto presents an exhibition devoted to suiseki, the Eastern tradition that highlights natural stones shaped by weather and time to evoke landscapes or symbolic forms. Curated by Carlo Maria Galli and produced in collaboration with the municipal Culture Department, the show features specimens collected and studied mainly in the Maremma area.
Suiseki offers a contemplative perspective on the relationship between nature and artistic perception: ordinary-looking stones become miniature landscapes or symbolic signs, encouraging calm and focused observation. The exhibition suits both enthusiasts of Eastern arts and visitors interested in territory-based collecting practices.
The exhibition traces the historical roots of suiseki—dating back around two thousand years in China—and presents the curator's research and collecting activity in the Tuscan landscape, highlighting geological and naturalistic aspects of the Maremma.
