History and description
Designed between 1984 and 1991, following a suggestion by Sandro Pertini to celebrate the centenary of the Terni steelworks, the work was created by Arnaldo Pomodoro. Made of cast steel, it stands about 30–32 meters high and is composed of five blocks of different colors.
Curiosities
The blocks of the obelisk represent a symbolic journey: from raw iron at the base to the golden tip, they allegorically illustrate both industrial and spiritual transformation.
Access
As a public sculpture, Pomodoro’s Obelisk is freely accessible at any time of day.
How to reach it
Located at the entrance to Terni’s historic center, the work can be reached by car (with parking available near the city), by several urban bus lines, or on foot.
Considered a contemporary symbol perfectly intertwined with the city’s industrial identity, the Lancia di Luce is an unmissable landmark for lovers of art and architecture.
