Segrino Lake, tucked between the hills of the Brianza area near Como, is a notable environmental recovery success: today it is among the cleanest lakes in Europe. It offers peaceful walks, wildlife viewing and safe spots for swimming—perfect for a half-day trip or a nearby weekend escape from Milan.
The lake stands out for several reasons:
The main route is a flat 5 km cycling and walking loop (maximum elevation change about 10 m). It can be completed in under two hours at a leisurely pace and is walkable in both directions. The eastern shore is car-free and wooded; the western shore runs alongside SP 41 but still offers pleasant water views.
Getting there: by car from Milan take the SS 36 to the Annone exit, then follow signs for Eupilio (about 60 km). By train, use Ferrovie Nord Milano to Canzo and walk approximately 15 minutes; the Mariaga stop (line C190) is at the start of the lakeside path.
Key details:
Tips: wear comfortable footwear, bring binoculars for birdwatching and respect the protected environment by not leaving litter. In summer the Lido is the easiest option for enjoying the water without specialized gear.
