Molise's Norman Route takes shape

The Autonomous Office for Tourism (Aast) of Molise is developing the Via Molisana dei Normanni, a network of thematic routes designed to showcase the region’s historical, religious, artistic and productive heritage and to join the European “Routes des Normandes” platform.

The project connects castles, abbeys, popular traditions and local productions with the aim of turning historical memory into cultural and economic development for the involved territories.

• Route of Norman Churches and Castles: visits to abbeys, cathedrals and historic churches;
• Route of Norman Faith: a spiritual path tied to saints’ presences and relics;
• Route of the Bell: religious heritage and bell-making tradition;
• Route of Blades: tradition of knives, swords and medieval ironwork;
• Route of Textile Art: from Norman tapestries to bobbin lace;
• Route of Norman Music and Song: bagpipes, medieval fairs and popular traditions;
• Route of Norman Flavours: bread, cheeses, oil, wine and pastoral cuisine;
• Route of the Norman Knights: equestrian culture, cavalry and traditional practices;
• Route of Drovers' Roads and the Sea: linking mountain interiors, drovers’ paths and the Adriatic coast.

According to Aast Molise, the initiative aims to build a European cultural network that combines historical memory, tourism and local development. The president of the Molise region called it “a major unitary project” to relaunch the region.

Municipalities wishing to take part must send their adhesion by email no later than 15 May 2026.
