WWF Spring in the Oases – Abruzzo

The national initiative WWF Spring in the Oases brings a rich program of events to Abruzzo’s six WWF Oases: Lago di Penne, Calanchi di Atri, Gole del Sagittario, Lago di Serranella, Cascate del Rio Verde and Fosso Giardino. Activities are aimed at families, schools and nature lovers and include guided visits, educational workshops, wellbeing sessions and meetings with experts.

How to take part

Many activities are free or involve a small contribution and often require mandatory booking. Check each event page for times, fees and registration details; some activities list a participation fee.

Main events (selection)

• Calanchi di Atri
  • May 20 – World Bee Day: educational activities for schools (09:00–13:00).
  • May 22 – Walk exploring the Calanchi biodiversity (15:30).
  • May 24 – Reserve walk and children’s workshop; afternoon reading session. Free activities, mandatory booking: 331 57 99 191.
• Lago di Serranella
  • April 25 – Historical-natural walk (10:30–12:00, Visitor Centre, loc. Brecciaio).
  • May 10 – Flora recognition walk (09:30–12:00). Book by May 9: 331 290 7245 (sms/WhatsApp only).
  • May 23 – Educational activities within the Life URCA Pro Emys project (16:30–18:00). Book by May 22: 333 797 1892 / 339 738 4228 (sms/WhatsApp only).
  • May 24 – Practical course on small passerines and nature watercolor (16:00–18:30). Fee €15 (includes 2026 ANSN membership). Book: 331 290 7245.
  • May 30 – Performance in the Oasis by Teatro Possibile (18:30–20:30). Free participation.
• Gole del Sagittario
  • May 3 – "Whispers of the Oasis": stories of water, land and wings (10:30 at Sorgenti di Cavuto).
  • May 9 – Forest immersion activity for parent-child (10:30).
  • May 23 – "The gold of the hive": discover bees with Mario Petrella (10:30).
  • May 24 – "Nature in words" with Paolo Cellupica (10:30). Info and bookings: 327 941 1980.
• Lago di Penne
  • May 14 – Forum and press conference: morning and afternoon sessions at the "La Figlia di Iorio" Hall (Province of Pescara).
• Fosso Giardino (Martinsicuro)
  • May 14 – Agricultural areas day: visit to the nature trail and adventure park.
  • May 17 – Forests day: guided visits to the nature trail and adventure park.
