Francesco Vezzoli’s «Nike Metafisica» joins the Museo di Santa Giulia collection

The Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia has officially added Nike Metafisica, a 2019 work by Francesco Vezzoli, to its permanent holdings. The sculpture is exhibited in the Viridarium, the museum's contemporary sculpture garden, where it engages with archaeological remains and the museum setting.

Vezzoli's piece revisits the classical iconography of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, incorporating references to 20th-century metaphysical painting and offering a contemporary reinterpretation of ancient models. The acquisition is part of the Palcoscenici archeologici project, produced with input from the artist and supported by the Italian Council, aimed at enhancing the dialogue between heritage and contemporary production.

  • Work: Nike Metafisica (2019)
  • Artist: Francesco Vezzoli
  • Location: Viridarium, Museo di Santa Giulia — Via dei Musei 81b, Brescia
  • Inauguration and acquisition: 13 May 2026

The Viridarium route already features other contemporary works that complement the conversation with the ancient collection, including:

  • Michelangelo Pistoletto, Terzo Paradiso (2015)
  • Ariel Schlesinger, Untitled (2019)
  • Valerio Rocco Orlando, Formiamo Umanità (2022)
  • Emilio Isgrò, Mondo d'Acciaio (2023)

Why visit: Nike Metafisica demonstrates how contemporary art can interact with historical heritage, offering fresh interpretative keys and enriching the museum experience.

Practical info: Museo di Santa Giulia, Viridarium — Via dei Musei 81b, 25121 Brescia (BS). Inauguration and acquisition: 13 May 2026. In parallel, the Parco archeologico di Brescia romana hosts the exhibition Victoria Mater. L'idolo e l'icona until 21 June 2026.
