Rogliano: Vicolo Annunciata, a village revival driven by local action

In Rogliano’s historic center, Vicolo Annunciata has been transformed from a neglected alley into an open-air art gallery and a replicable example of urban regeneration. The change is the result of sustained, organized effort led by the Associazione vicolo Annunciata.

Project leadership

  • The Associazione vicolo Annunciata, led by president Adriana Castellotti and vice president Marilù Pallone;
  • board members and volunteers including Ines Nucci, Nadia Molinaro, Elena Castellotti, Alessandra Guzzo and other local activists;
  • artistic collaboration from students in Cusago (MI), coordinated by Prof. Maria Carmela Suppa, who contributed the new “Talking Tiles” integrated into the urban path.

How the regeneration was implemented

  • continuous local stewardship through maintenance and cleaning activities;
  • coordination of local skills for artistic works and aesthetic improvements;
  • intergenerational engagement to connect residents and visiting students;
  • leveraging local heritage as a cultural asset and territorial attraction.

The initiative shows that village revival relies on actions anchored in the community: beyond visual interventions, it requires an association able to coordinate volunteers, partnerships and cultural activities.

Practical tips for visitors and those who want to replicate the model

  • Respect the historic context and artworks; check association programs for guided tours or workshops.
  • Support local associations through donations, volunteering or event collaboration.
  • Document and share the project on local channels to increase its visibility and attract conscious visitors.

Regional recognition confirms that similar projects can be a catalyst for protecting and revitalizing Italian villages: a working example that places art, participation and shared management of heritage at the center.
