From 18 April to 16 May 2026, Galleria Lombardi in Trastevere, Rome, hosts the exhibition "I Observe", curated by Lorenzo and Enrico Lombardi. The show brings together roughly 20 works by Mario Schifano produced between the 1960s and the 1990s, offering a concise yet representative overview of his artistic development.
The exhibition spans about three decades of Schifano's work, touching on major strands of his production: monochromes, pieces related to advertising imagery, landscapes and later cycles. The compact layout allows visitors to grasp the main phases of his practice in a short visit.
Schifano played a central role in Italy's postwar art scene; his work engages with Pop Art themes while retaining a distinctly personal, hand-made quality. His paintings often reinterpret mass-media imagery—photographs, television and advertising—preserving the layered, tactile nature of painting.
Practical tips: the gallery show is small and can be visited quickly; it works well as a focused complement to the larger city retrospective. Check the gallery's announcements before your visit for any schedule updates or special openings.
