Castelbuono Infiorata: the relic of Saint Francis of Assisi arrives on May 31

Castelbuono (PA) will host a significant religious and cultural moment during the XVIII Infiorata: Sunday, 31 May 2026, the town will receive the Sacred Relic of Saint Francis of Assisi, coming from the Papal Basilica of Assisi and escorted by the Custodian of the Sacro Convento, Fra Marco Moroni.

The arrival of the relic is a central element of the celebrations for the eighth centenary of the Saint’s death, combining faith, art and popular tradition.

Key schedule (31 May 2026)

• 18:00 – Opening and blessing of the XVIII Infiorata on via Sant’Anna, attended by Bishop Mons. Giuseppe Marciante and civil and military authorities.
• 19:00 – Procession from the Town Hall to piazza Parrocchia for the solemn reception of the Sacred Relics in the Chiesa Madrice Nuova.
• Solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Bishop Giuseppe Marciante.
• After the celebration, the relic will be transferred to the Monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli, where it will remain available for veneration by the faithful until 3 June 2026.

Practical information

The relic’s presence is the spiritual heart of the festivities; faithful and visitors will be able to venerate it during the exhibition period. It is advisable to arrive early to take part in the procession and the solemn Mass and to follow the instructions of event staff regarding pedestrian routes and parking areas.

The event is organised in collaboration with the Diocese of Cefalù, the National Committee for the Eighth Centenary and the Papal Basilica of Assisi, aiming to honour Saint Francis and promote the religious and cultural heritage of the Madonie area.
